How to Become a Survivalist- The 3 Steps You Must Take

Do you have what it takes to become a survivalist?   What makes you, whether old or young,  survive in adverse conditions, without tools or supplies, while others that are well equipped perish?  How to become survivalist-3 essential steps, when implemented, is the key.

Do you want to prepare for any emergency or a natural disaster like a tornado or earthquake, survive anywhere on earth, if you become stranded in the wilderness, jungle, desert, mountains, or any urban setting?

If you watch the news, with the various natural disasters, pandemics, man-made disasters, political upheavals, plane crashes, even nuclear explosions, and think “this can happen here,” then you have taken the first step to become a survivalist.

3 Necessary Steps a Survival Must Implement

How to become survivalist-3 essential steps that must be implemented for any favorable, worst-case scenario outcome are:  having a survivalist mindset, a strong will to live, utilizing knowledge of survival techniques, and making effective use of their survival tools.

1.  Have a Survival Mindset

The foundation of a survivalist’s mindset is never giving up regardless of the situation. You must believe that you can survive anything and survive anywhere. You have to think outside the box, be resourceful, do what is difficult, the unimaginable to ensure your number one priority: protection from further dangers.

It matters what you say to yourself; be positive. You must have a detailed picture of yourself beyond the survival situation, what will you be doing, saying, thinking, feeling? Maintain your sense of humor; it will keep you from stressing and stay calmer. Being calm leads to clearer thinking and coming up with multiple options.

2.  Knowledge of Survival Techniques Is Essential to Becoming a Survivalist

Knowledge is essential because the more we know, the easier it is to survive, and the less we fear.

Knowing how to apply survival techniques is also about persistence. One of the essential survival skills you must know is how to start a fire. A fire can help with communication, signaling, protect wildlife, boil water, and help you make tools.

Starting a fire doesn’t just happen in minutes. Getting your fire started can take hours one, two, three, even twelve hours, to go from friction. Pay attention to your environment, notice what’s available to help get your basic needs met. What do you notice in your surrounding that can provide shelter, water, and food?

3.  Essential Items for the Survivalist

How many survival tools will you need?

In a survival scenario, less is more. It is better to have extensive knowledge of your essential tools than a lot of equipment and don’t know how to use it. Remember, you may not have any appliances with you in a survival situation.

If you can pack tools and equipment, what should you include?
These essential items should include a knife, compass, and a telephone. You should have these with you whenever you leave home.

A knife is a valuable tool in any survival situation. If you have a folding knife with different blades, it will be useful, but a better choice is a sturdy, sharp, all-purpose knife that can cut vegetables as well as branches off a tree. Be sure you know the knife laws where you live; be aware of what is legal, when not in a survival scenario.

A compass can help you stay on route, but only if you know how to use it. Your compass and a topographical map showing elevations should be kept on your body, not in a backpack.

Having a charged phone can make a difference in an emergency. It is best to send texts to communicate your location and situation and conserve your battery.

Conclusion

To become a survivalist, 3 essential steps include having a survival mindset, knowledge of survival skills, and being prepared with essential items to help in any survival situation.

The need to become a survivalist is more urgent than ever because the world is more unpredictable.  All around us, we see natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, increased wildfires, stronger hurricanes, to name a few. There are pandemics, outbreaks, political unrest, potential man-made disasters such as nuclear meltdowns.

The only logical decision must be to start prepping to survive any worst-case scenario.
